Travel Insurance
Coverage Description
Travel Insurance covers benefits eligible employees and enrolled student groups. This insurance program covers the following:
- Emergency Medical Assistance – provides resources and assistance when you need emergency treatment due to an accident or illness.
- Medical Assistance for Illness – provides resources and assistance when you need non-emergency treatment for a medical illness.
- Security Evacuation – provides resources and assistance through a partnership with iJet when you need to leave a country for political, legal or safety reasons (International Travel only).
The insurance is divided into two categories:
Business Travel Accident Insurance (BTA)
BTA is available at no charge to benefits eligible employees only. Coverage information is available on the Human Resource Services Benefits page.
Student Travel Accident Insurance (STA)
Coverage is available to student groups traveling abroad only by enrolling in the program and paying the applicable premium. It is not available to individual students. For more information on the program, the faculty coordinator for the group travel must contact Risk Management.
Enrollment Information
BTA: No enrollment is necessary. Only benefits eligible employees qualify for coverage at no charge as part of their employee benefits package.
STA: To enroll, the program coordinator must contact Risk Management. This coverage is available to student groups only. Individuals must seek other resources for coverage. There are resources available on the internet such as Medex and CISI.
Information for International Travelers
All groups or persons traveling abroad should consult the Office of the Provost International Travel Resources website. The site includes resources and guidelines useful for anyone planning to travel abroad.
Claim Reporting Process
If you have used the resources of our insurer for BTA or STA, you should contact Human Resource Services, the Dean’s Office, Trip Organizers or others who coordinate your travel as applicable as soon as practical to ensure the insurance carrier has needed information to ensure the smooth operation of your claim. Your travel contact should notify Risk Management so we may assist in coordinating services. Services requiring contact may include accessing medical services, arranging for travel home or other services the insurer provides.
